Editing an Existing Page
To edit a page, just click the "edit" button at the top of the page. You will be taken to a page with a large text box that contains the text for the page you are editing. In addition to the text that is visible on the page, extra syntax is used in order to denote headings, bold and italic font, links and other items.
To make a change to the text on the page, simply edit the text in the text box and press the "Save page" button at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, press the "Show preview" button to see what the page will look like before you save it.
Headings
To make a heading, simply surround a line of text with either one, two or three equals signs depending on the level of heading:
= Heading 1 = == Subheading == === Subsubheading ===
Bold and Italics
To make a word italic, surround it with two quote marks; to make it bold surround it with three:
''italic text'' '''bold text'''
Hyperlinks
You can add a link to another page on the Wiki by using the following style tag:
[[Events]]
[[Events | a link about branch events ]]
This will make the following links:
To make a link to a page outside this Wiki, use just one bracket:
[http://www.bath-wells.org.uk]
[http://www.bath-wells.org.uk the association website]
This will make the following links:
Lists
If you need to make a bulleted list, prefix each item with an asterisk:
* item 1 * item 2
To make a number list, prefix each item with a hash:
# item 1 # item 2
Creating New Pages
The brilliant thing about Wikis, is that you can simply type the name of the page that you want to create in the address bar and then click on the edit link of the page to start it. For example:
http://www.bathbranchringing.org/w/index.php/New Page Name
Alternatively, you can make a link to the page on an existing page and click on it. A red link means that the page has not been created yet.
If you want to create a page under the category of another, use a colon in the name. For example, to write a page about an tower's outing:
| Towers & Branch Map | News | Events | Ringing Articles | Committee |
